Craobh Haven Cottages - Visitors Book Comments

Comments from Visitors

MyCottageHoliday

We have had a Visitors Book in both cottages for a number of years now and guests are invited to add their comments as they wish. Some entries suggest areas to visit, nice walks and good places to eat. Others comment on the cottages and the time they have had there. Listed here are just a few comments from across the years - they are unsolicited and genuine. Although we have not identified the authors here, if you come to stay you will be able to read them for yourself!

Read and write independent reviews - MyCottageHoliday  A 'TripAdvisor for UK holiday cottages', this website allows guests to place their own reviews directly on the web. Click on the right to read reviews posted directly by our guests.

"Es waren wundershöne Tage hier und in der Umgebung.  Wir mögen die schöne Landschaft, die Berge and Täler und die netten Menschen.  Wir haben jeden Plate genossen.  Spezieller Tip, nicht in Reiseführer enthalten:  Die kleine Insel „Easdale“ – richtung ObanA816 – B844 über die bekannte Atlantic Brücke.

They were wonderful days here and in the surroundings.  We liked the beautiful countryside, the hills and glens and the nice kindly people. We enjoyed every place.  Special tip, not found in the guide – the little Easdale island – from here towards Oban  A816 – B844 over the famous Altlantic Bridge."
Family Gottschalg, Halle up. Saale, Germany  July 2004

Boats in Crinan pool"The accommodations here are so well thought out – every time I needed something it had been thought of.  The trip to Glencoe is a must – go through Tyndrum on the way and Ballachulish on the return for full effect (3 hours round trip).  Amazing cottage – my 4th trip to Scotland and by far the best accommodations ever!"
Gary & Laura, Sandy UT, USA   July 2003

In many years experience of self catering this must be rated the best.  Nice place – shame about the weather!  However, we all made the most of the visit and fully expect to return here again.

"We have stayed in many cottages, in the UK and abroad, over the years.  Islay qualifies as one of the very best.  What makes it stand out are the highest standards of cleanliness, the superb attention to detail, and finally the wonderful views.  We have had the most lovely holiday with a variety of weather each bringing its own wealth of colour and splendour."
Lynda & David, Crewe  October 2002

"A gorgeous week.  The wildlife has been superb, especially the puffins on Staffa!"
The Flacks, London  May 2003

Helen & Ben, Northamptonshire  August 2002

"Yet again, another fantastic week! We have climbed the hill Dun Crutagin and went half way up Ben Nevis – next time we’ll do right the way up!! A week is not long enough, but we’ve had a brilliant time; seen ducks, seals, birds and fighter jets."
The Minters, Wokingham, Berkshire  October 2003

"Walks round the causeway and up the hill have been a treat, and tonight we had blackberries picked on the causeway – yum!!  Musts to do – Seil and Easdale island (my personal paradise), the Rare Breeds Park (though watch the goats – they ate my guide book), Kilmartin, Forest Walks on Castle Sween road.  Also recommend the Footwear Discount Centre in Oban – lovely shoes at lovely prices!  Wildlife spotted:  seals (in the harbour), rabbits, heron, assorted gulls, swans, curlew, chough, merlin, buzzard, willow warbler, cormorants, dragonflies, osprey."
Sarah & Craig,  North Wales  Aug 2003

Horse riding on the shore"It was lovely arriving to such a welcoming cottage.  The child-friendly touches were especially welcome. A wonderful, peaceful place, we enjoyed some gorgeous sunsets and the total absence of midges."
The Barnes Family. June '01

We’ve loved it here – thank you!  Beautiful cottage, lovely scenery and we’ve been blessed with excellent weather.  So much to do – we’ll have to come back to finish it all!  We’ve been to the Highland Games in Oban, and on the ‘Jacobite’ steam train from Fort William to Mallaig. Over the Glenfinnan Viaduct used in the Harry Potter film.  Magnificent!
Fiona & June, Maidenhead, Berks  August 2003

"One of the most relaxing holidays we've had"
Debbie & Paul.  June '01

"Alison + Matthew, you must be aware of just what a perfect place you’ve created here.  The whole package adds up to a truly wonderful experience that can’t be summed up in a few words – although the comments of the previous guests come as close as you probably can.  Barbara, the seasoned Scottish traveller, tells me that it doesn’t get any better than this cottage in this place."
Russell & Barbara, Chester  May 2002

"When we looked at the eulogies taken from this book on your excellent website, we found them a little hard to believe... Having spent the most glorious week here, we can only echo all their sentiments."
Brian & Shirley. October '97

"Our enjoyment of the week is due in no small measure to the thought and care that has been put into this cottage.  It certainly is the best that we have been to in many locations.  We only hope that people staying here in the future will get just as much enjoyment.  We are sure that they will."
David and Tonny, The Netherlands  April 2003

"A lovely cottage.  It’s not often that something exceeds expectations, but you have achieved this.  The weather has been great, but we were overwhelmed by the wonderful location, not to mention the cleanliness of the cottage.  If you like a peaceful place where you can walk through some of the world’s most beautiful scenery without having to jump into big 4x4 (or SUV in American terms) then spend a week here – you’ll love it!  The most peaceful, most tranquil, and certainly one of the best value holidays we have had."
Rikki & Lesley, Dundee  April 2003

"Best place we have stayed in Scotland. Brill cottage with lots of nice touches and details."
Pam & Gary.  June '01

"An excellent base for touring the island and Highlands, or just enjoying the tranquillity of the local area. Watching the sun set over the harbour, whilst sitting in front of the open fire, with a bottle of excellent wine, is as near to heaven as one could hope to reach. We have had a great holiday and a perfect start to our marriage."

"Islay Cottage is a real tribute to Alison and Matthew who work so hard to keep it to this standard, the best we have found in 20 years visiting Scotland. It can only be described as a little piece of heaven in God's own country.  A wonderful place for our honeymoon."
Mr & Mrs Audus. December 2000

"Came with sweater and needed shorts.  Only one or two brief showers and they did not dampen our spirits.  Everything we could have asked for a honeymoon."

David & Pauline. July '99

Sunset over Craobh Haven"Fantastic cottage – a pleasure to enter after a long drive.  As everyone has said, the views are great, and the website didn’t exaggerate them at all.  A lovely, peaceful holiday.  It will be a shame to switch the mobile on again. "
Graham & Sheila, Essex  June 2002

"We’ve had a wonderful time here, and have been able to completely relax.  This has always been my dream – to spend my honeymoon in this most beautiful part of Scotland."
Douglas & Judith, Oxford  October 2002

"What a clean and cosy house is this, there are more tools in the kitchen than at home. It is a good feeling that everything is in the house, so no camping feeling."
Ellen & Mart, The Netherlands. July '99

"Our first visit to this heavenly place - and we certainly hope it won't be our last. Today it's been bright sun and blue skies and sea and it's almost 7pm and still the sun shines - it is so beautiful here. We loved seeing an otter in the bay catching its breakfast and seals in the marina - really great. The cottage is the best we've been to and we've stayed in a lot! Don't want to leave!"
Chris & Rob. August '96

"A truly idyllic place to spend a wonderful romantic Christmas.  Beautiful scenery, incredible sun rises and sunsets, snow on the mountains, and amazing starry skies.  The perfect setting to marry my true love on the 27th December.  So many incredible memories to take away with us, and keep in our hearts…Always."
Millie & Keith, Newcastle upon Tyne  December 2001

"We have had the perfect week here. This place is absolutely beautiful! I have travelled all over the world and this is definitely one of my most favourite places ever! The cottage is so lovely, so cosy, so perfect. I could live here forever! It is truly a haven. The views are breathtakingly gorgeous. It is all much better than we expected from the photos."

"Beautiful weather all week. Tranquil setting, views on this coastline breathtaking. The cottage felt like 'home' the day we arrived. Jessica (15 months) has had a safe and very exciting time, on this her first trip to Scotland. We truly do not want to leave, but we will come back, for certain!!"

Tom, Jan and Family. October '95

"If we could take the view from the window back with us it would be fantastic - we will miss it, as always! Never fail to be impressed by the standard of these cottages and their fixtures - a marvellous week."
The Gouldens. July '95

"Liz and I came to these cottages two years ago for our honeymoon and fell for the place hook, line and sinker. So much so that we've returned with the mother-in-law! We've been to the other side of the world only to discover that there really is nowhere like home, especially here and the lake district.

Recipe for a calming holiday: Take a deckchair, a glass and 50mls of Oban Single Malt. Cover with a generous helping of setting sun. Leave to stew for approximately half an hour, then combine with a satisfying dinner, a mid-evening stroll to the shore and finally fold into a comfortable armchair to bake gently in front of a crackling fire. Serves one, but will stretch to however many one desires."
David & Lizzie. May '96

"Best cottage we've ever stayed in - even the weather was obliging."
Roger & Julie. September '90

"Craobh H(e)aven!!!"

Andy.  May '01

Bryan, Gill & Helen. October '89

"We'd been told how lovely Craobh Haven is, but didn't quite believe it till we got here! Islay & Jura are excellent cottages - couldn't wish for more! We will pine for the fabulous view for many a day."
Paul, Ella & Bernie. July 1995

"The peace & solitude of this place is a foretaste of heaven. I must acknowledge we can not begin to match the unique beauty of this place in Madison Lake, Minnesota, USA. Thanks so much."
Jim & family. August '96

"This has been our first time in Scotland and by happy chance we found our way here to 'Islay' and the sleepy hamlet of Craobh Haven. We have been utterly seduced by all three! The temptation has been to drive hither and thither & do and see all this magical place has to offer. But alas! Scarcely could be prized out of that pretty bedroom in the mornings. I have been perfectly content to laze about & just 'be', soaking up the peace & tranquillity. The best days we had were spent locally exploring the vicinity on foot. Happy days to you."
Helen & Vince. August '94

"Our first visit to this part of the country and we weren't disappointed. A lovely cottage that we cannot fault and set amidst beautiful surroundings. The weather has been wet but this hasn't stopped us enjoying the week."
Mary, David, Beth & Anna. June '94
